This is one of the moments when I’m glad I live in the ‘rectum of the US’. Chile had an earthquake (8.8) with some nasty damage. However the big question here in the States is the risk of tsunami in Alaska and Hawaii. Now Alaska is only expecting waves a couple of feet high. Hawaii? Er, little different…
The tsunami-warning center’s models, based on readings from sensors, are predicting “very rough waves” from six to 10 feet high by the time the tsunami hits Hawaii at about 11:00 a.m. local time, Mr. Hirshorn [cq] said. Any major tsunami waves could be damaging, he said, because “the don’t crash on the beach. They streamroll in and they streamroll out.” (WSJ)
And as can be expected, us Americans have hit the panic button on the islands. Supposedly already one traffic fatality as people scramble over there for higher ground.
So as I lay in my bed in sunny South Texas, my hopes and prayers are with the folks along the potential paths of a tsunami.
I like Chris Rock. He can be a dick sometimes but he pretty much tells it like it is from my head. So without further ado - Chris Rock reminding me why I’m glad I’m not married (at least).
