SOTD: Adele – ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ (Live At Royal Albert Hall)
You know, its really not fair. Today was the first day I’ve heard this song and I really can’t stop playing it. LOL. Of course, the joke is that this song’s been out for a year and released in the States since November. Yours truly here though doesn’t have FM radio in the car (which is the only place I normally listen to ‘regular’ music – my workplace’s radio is stuck on shit ass country music).
Point is that I know Adele is a good singer and not a skinny diva, etc. She’s the sole exception that proves most rules as it were and manages to even fight off a fuckin’ vocal hemorrhage and still come out like a champ. Frankly, I envy her skill, talent, and well – cajones.
Add to the fact that this song manages to portray a complex relationship too close to home in 4 minutes with a killer voice. Yeah, I’m fucking jealous. Hey it happens, alright? Granted, not often – but still.
…
sorry, some goddamn dirt in my eyes…..
I let it fall, my heart,
And as it fell you rose to claim it.
It was dark and I was over…
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me.
My hands, they’re strong
But my knees were far too weak.
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet.
But there’s a side to you
That I never knew, never knew -
All the things you’d say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win
But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming
Out your name, your name
When I lay with you
I could stay there
Close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together
Nothing gets better
‘Cause there’s a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you’d say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win
But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming
Out your name, your name
I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died
‘Cause I knew that that was
The last time, the last time
Sometimes I wake up by the door,
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now when we’re already over
I can’t help myself from looking for ya
I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming
Out your name, your name
I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died
‘Cause I knew that, that was the last time
The last time
Let it burn
Let it burn
Let it burn

My wife LOVES this album…..
Adele spent a month or so in Boston after her vocal cord surgery……
…another close brush (within 20 miles) with a celeb…!!
